Tenerife
Golf
Flying over Tenerife nowadays, visitors to the island will realise
that green is definitely this season’s colour. In fact every
season’s colour in the Canary Islands.
Golf is big business in the land of eternal spring. With average
temperatures of 20 degrees in winter and 25 in summer, playing
conditions are eternally perfect – where else can you find
that at less than four hours flying time from the UK?
Golf courses in Tenerife
There are currently eight golf courses in Tenerife, with the stunning
Abama Golf, designed by Paul
Thomas, due to open shortly and
several others in various stages of planning.
A number of major tournaments have helped put Tenerife firmly on
the international golfing map. The PGA Canaries Open of Spain was
held at Golf Costa Adeje in 2003. Buenavista
Golf, a championship
course designed by no less than Mr Golf himself – Seve
Ballesteros – will
also soon host one of the golfing world’s major events. Watch
this space!
Whatever your level, from complete beginner to scratch, there’s
a golf course in Tenerife to match your needs. The 9-hole par 27
courses of Los Palos and Amarilla Golf in the south, and La Rosaleda
in the north provide a fantastic opportunity to sharpen up your
short game and for those with little time to spare. Golf
Las Américas,
Real Club de Golf, Buenavista Golf and Amarilla Golf provide 18-hole
rounds in magnificent sub-tropical settings, whilst Golf Costa
Adeje, Golf del Sur offer a variation of 27 holes with the ocean
to one side and a mountain backdrop on the other.
